For this shoot I need to make sure that I have the studio booked so that I can take the appropriate photographs of the food colouring dropping into the water. I need to make sure that I have a variety of food colourings so that I have a lot of variety with the colours, which I am going to get from asda. I also need to make sure that I have a glass with water that I can refill and also a spare bowl to get rid of the unwanted water colours that I don't want. I need to make sure that I have someone to help me to drop the food colouring into the water so that I can take the photograph at the right moment. For this, I also need to make sure that I have something that the food colouring can drip off of, so that my helper doesn't get food colouring everywhere. I also need to make sure that I have access to the lightbox and know how to use it.
What I Hope To Achieve
I am hoping that I am going to be able to get some really interesting looking water shots that shows the food colouring dispersing underneath the water and also showing the water droplet bouncing back up out of the water. I think that both of these ideas will work really well, especially with the food colouring. I do however, think that it would be a good idea to experiment first with simple water dropping to get the timing worked out for the food colouring droplets. These photos may also look really interesting and work really well. These are a couple of examples that I want to focus on when doing my photo shoot.
What I Actually Achieved
I managed to get a variety of different shots from different angles, showing the food colouring dropping into the water. I experimented with a bowl and a glass as a means of holding the water, but the glass turned out to work a lot better, as it was smaller which meant that the water didn't disperse as much as it did when it was in the bowl. I also managed to get a couple of good images of the water essentially jumping back out of the bowl. Here are two of my favourite images from the shoot.
This was my favourite photo that I took with no editing at all as I loved the way that the droplet has two tiers to it. It adds more dimension to the image and gives it a sense of uniqueness. I also like the way that at the bottom of the image you can see a faded pink colour where the food colouring has been before. I think that it almost looks as though nothing has dropped into the water and there is just a pink cloud forming in the water. This is highly effective as it makes it look slightly etherial.
What I Am Going To Do Next
In regards to this shoot I am going to do a lot of experimentation with editing to see what types of image I can achieve. With my next shoot I am going to do beauty shots using the ring flash to see the type of images that I can get of people's faces.
