One of the main ideas that I was looking forward to developing was close-up portraiture, focusing mainly on the eyes and facial features. I wanted to make sure I especially conducted a lot of research into different ways of portraying facial features so that I could have a highly developed range throughout my work to sow the differences in humans. From the outset, I knew that this is what I wanted to focus the majority of my attention on as it is san area that has practically no limits. I also wanted to look at the texture of certain objects, mainly fruits and vegetables as they are very diverse and can be photographed in a number of different ways. Looking into these topics, I came to the conclusion that these were the two areas that I was going to focus on.
I also did some experimental work to add to my project so that it would not all be the same. One of the shoots that I was overjoyed with, was my water droplet shoot. I came up with this idea after seeing the photographer, Michael Dykstra complete some mysterious looking water shots that inspired me greatly. This gave me the idea to experiment with the use of food dye in water, taking photographs of the dispersion. I wasn't sure how this was going to work out, but it turned out to be one of the best shoots that I did. Here is one of the photographs from that shoot that I am extremely happy with.
As well as looking at natural aspects such as the water idea, I also focused one of my shoots on photographing animals at the zoo, which is an idea that I got from the photographer Brad Wilson. Wilson was one of the first photographers that I fully looked at in regards to close up animal photographer and it influenced me and inspired me to try and create some similar work. This is when I decided to go to the zoo using my telephoto lens to it's full potential. I was able tog et some fantastic shots that fit right in with the close - up idea and this also much like the water shoot, turned out to be be of my favourites. Here are a couple of photographs from that shoot.
After looking into more detail about the different types of photographs that I could produce using close up photography, I realised that it was not as limited as I once thought. At first, I thought that the idea of close-up photography would get a bit boring as it's quite a simple idea, being able to photograph practically anything. It was only when I started to plan and experiment with some shoots, that I actually realised the potential of what I could produce. Throughout the entire project I have had a really eye opening time, particularly enjoying looking at other photographer's work to get inspiration for my own. I have enjoyed experimenting in particular to get the photographs that I have planned out in my mind, bringing them to life with the idea of close-up.
Throughout this topic, I have developed my photographic skills, mainly capturing detail to a greater extent. I have also developed my knowledge on composition when it comes to extreme close up photography, understanding further how an audience will respond to different positioning in images.
Overall, this topic has been extremely interesting to complete and create. I have stretched my photographic skills, producing work that I didn't think I could do. This has helped me when it comes to the future of my photography.
