5th Shoot - Work Record

Preparation

For this shoot I need to make sure that I have a good variety of flowers so that I can have a lot of variety in my work.  I also would like to create some interesting edits with these close-up shots, as I feel like I could get some really interesting grid shots. I need to make sure that I have good lighting as well to get these shots.  I also need to make sure that my camera is charged and I have the appropriate lens to take the photos with.

What I Hope To Achieve

I hope that I will be able to get some interesting close-up photographs of a variety of different flowers.  I am going to try and get some extreme close-ups as well, experimenting with angles and the way in which I take the photographs.  I am also going to do some group shots so that I can have all of the flowers next to each other in a sort of comparison.  I think that this will expand the type of images that I am getting, hopefully allowing me to get a much broader range of photographs.  I am also hoping that I am going to get some very simple images that highlight the beauty of flowers, in all of the different forms that they come in. This is an example of the very simplistic type of image that I am going to try and create, along with an example of the type of extreme close-up that I am going to try and create.

What I Actually Achieved

I managed to get some really interesting photographs of lots of different flowers.  I am really happy with how they turned out, but I think I could have managed to get a lot closer than I actually did.  I think that I can do this through shooting in the studio rather than at home, with a more advanced lens.  Other than this, the shoot went really well and I got some different images that I think look quirky and challenge the basic idea of close up flower photography.  I experimented a lot with the type of positioning I could get away with and I think it would greatly in my favour.  These are two of my favourite edits that I put together.

This has definitely got to be the most favourite edit that I did from this shoot due to the colours and the closeness that I managed to achieve.  I was greatly surprised when I realised that this shot was in focus.  I didn't think that it would work but I am really happy that it did.  I lowered the saturation of the image to make it look more dramatic, as I think that this effect makes photographs of flowers look a lot more appealing to the eye as they aren't so bright that you are taken aback by the colour.

This was another photograph that I thought turned out really well.  This is due to the positioning and composition of the image.  I think that it has made the image look a lot more interesting due to the fact that I have positioned the flower in the bottom left hand side of the page rather than placing it in the centre or to one side.  I also like the way that there is clearly something in front of it, but it is blurred so there is no telling what it actually is.  It adds a sense of mystery to the image that I think works really well.

What I Am Going To Do Next

In regards to my next shoot I am going to look at various textures and capture extreme close-ups, highlighting the different types of textures that you can find around the house.  I think that this will look interesting as it can represent lots of different things.  In regards to this shoot, I am going to put the flowers into a grid format so that I can see them all side my side.
